This is not a dictionary....

which is what I was looking for. It was hard to tell from the sample pages and reviews that this is not an etymology book. However, it is a very nice, self directed course in Greek and Latin roots and prefixes. Although this is not really what I wanted, I have grown quite fond of it and would recommend it for someone looking to learn where our words came from and their meanings. This will not replace an etymology book or dictionary.

Great Point of Reference

I first bought this book for a greek and latin words class back in the 90's. It is a great reference for looking up any word. Helpful when learning about diseases or even foreign languages, because once you learn the root, you really understand how so many of our languages have come to be. I recommend it for anyone, whether you're a med student, health fanatic, or just want to always be knowledgeable on different topics. I've actually bought this book three times! Twice for myself and once for someone who didn't want to give me mine back!

"This is an incredible book!"

There are many, many books on scientific terminology out there, and in my mind, this is one of the best.It covers all of the standard greek and latin bases and combining forms. (the other book that I would recommend) is a good book on root words and combining forms such as,Donald.J.Borrors dictionary of root words and combining forms-if I have gotten the title wrong, just search Donald.J.Borror and I am sure it will be rectified. This book is basically a book on biology. It covers plant, animal, and human anatomy. There are many, many, lessons in this book, and as I said formerly,I think that it would be a good investment to purchase a dictionary of greek and latin root word constituents and their various forms in order to do a thorough etymological study of it. That said, and I know that I have been rambling, it is a worthwhile book. I would suggest this book to any biology, medical, etymology, or lover of words. It will increase your vocabulary and understanding of life ten-fold.
