It's apparent from reading this text that these BJU folks truly love what anyone--Christian fundamentalist or not--would call facts. The writing, the pictures, the captions, and the presentation demonstrate and attest to the Christian ideal towards cherishing facts. It's clearly a labour of love. And in its show of heart and spirit in manual and mental labour, there are few texts secular or otherwise that can compete with what BJU Press is here offering. Where the authors are critical, it's in areas where physical, observable, and mathematical facts are few and far between. Because the Christian world view is by and large a faith in facts, the more spectualive and grander world views presented by geologists and Darwinian ideas are slippery slopes for a Christian mind (these areas are actually weak in math-like facts characteristic of standard Christian thought). It's not that Christians can't think about such things, but one's understanding of one's faith must be particularly well grounded. And such an understanding is simply beyond most high-school students. Hence, it's easier (and a very wise course) to give the Christian student the tools to simply guard his or her faith and mind until it's able to honestly and rationally ponder the super tough questions about biology and geology that surely do and will challenge Christian doctrine, beliefs, and the bible itself.
