Biography of Arch Bistow

Arch Bristow (1882-1964) was an iconic cartoonist early in his career with the nationally published Zimmie cartoon, which ran from 1905-24; at its peak, it was in 152 newspapers with 14 million readers in the United States and Canada, and a very famous writer regionally with his Hay Rake Magazine which began in 1920. He was also the author of numerous columns in regional newspapers throughout his life, many running simultaneously in several newspapers. He also had four books: two with cartoons, "Jolly Jokers in the Town of Johns "in 1907 and "Zimmie's Summer Book" in 1908, one of verses, "Hay Ray Verses" in 1921, and one of prose," Old Time Tales of Warren County" in 1932. However, he is best remembered for the Hay Rake Magazine, of which he published over 40 issues of 64 pages each, where he did almost all the illustrations, stories, and editing. In this book, you will get a biography of Arch himself and a sample of each of his works. The artwork for the covers was done by his friend Don Wharton of Spring Creek, PA.
