I don't know why this book is not more famouse or appreciated. I do not consider it an artificial intelligence book, not in terms of a technological discovery or even a process, it is a great book on the evolucion of the brain and the history of computing to those days in 2000. Easy to read, full of stories (in fact each chapter starts with a nice story evolving to the life of a thinker or a technology). How our brain evolved, who are the most respected minds in a field or technology. If you read it, it will append in a week or less and you'll end up missing it. But first you have to find one. My hero Marvin Minsky has a similar approach on how technology will improve (not sustituting) our brains: Will Robots Inherit the Earth? Marvin Minsky/Scientific American, Oct1994 [....] Enjoy it.
