Don't be put off by the Reader's Digest title!

Modern crocheters need not shy away from this title simply because it was published by the not-so-hip Reader's Digest. This book contains many really cute designs, especially for kids. I just made the cover sweater for my son and it turned out beautifully (not at all chunky and awkward like so many crocheted sweaters). The patterns are concise and very easy to follow. Reader's Digest does indeed know their stuff and the crochet basics chapter is also very good. Yes, there are a few examples of the exhausted poncho and granny square here, and you may need to tweak your yarn choices a bit on some of the patterns, but overall this book has more "keepers" than most of the new crochet books that have been published recently. Give it a try.
