the best pirate romance

this book is full of romance and adventure, of the best sort. the characters are realistic and the plot quite believable. it has of course the element of the fairytale, which is after all expected.... the hero is the truly masculine, brave, handsome kind. he is really transformed by the end, as is the bad guy. the love story was tender and sweet and the adventure breathtaking! i seriously doubt there can be many just as good pirate romance books out there.

4 stars

Up until halfway through the book, this was a 5-star read. Then my suspension of disbelief started to waver as details that stretched my credulity mounted. The hero's deaf, which was very cool, and treated really well (including one NICE scene when he responds to her saying I love you for the first time). But. He's been deaf since birth, raised in an asylum where he was treated as an animal... how did he learn to speak, and particularly to speak well enough that nobody realizes he's deaf? And then neither of the villains seemed to ring true, particularly at the end, though I do very much appreciate the effort to paint the villains in shades of gray instead of 100% evil. But I did enjoy the story of a young woman prepared to marry a spoiled womanizer for the sake of her family, who takes one last chance at adventure and goes to see a Real Pirate at the jail, and ends up enthralled. If I'd read this in a less critical mood, I'd have rated it more highly.

Beyond Paradise

This was such a great book. I loved the pairing of the Jacques and Sylvie. They were a great couple. I like that Jacques was deaf, but he was able to he had to lip read; made him more human. All in all Beyond Paradise was a great book and would definatly read it again...and again...and again. Don't pass up this great story or you'll be sorry.

different and enchanting

Beautiful and sweet Slyvie wants to see a captured pirate for some excitement before she marries for duty and settles down to a boring life. She does and ends up used as his hostage! The pirate, Jacques, is a very different sort of hero...he is not the typical leader of the pirates, but only a member of the crew. Jacques had planned on letting her go when he got to his ship; but the captain wants her, so Jacques claims her to protect her. He is also deaf and his abused childhood treatment causes him to be both tender and rough in his ways. Their adventures with pirates and pirate hunters are exciting as is their blossoming love for each other is endearing. A wonderful romance that will make you feel good!

A great (and unique) love story!

What most impressed me about this story is that all the characters change throughout it. Even the bad guy has his good points. The main male character is disabled! That is unique! It was a great adventure, the love scenes were loving and hot and the characters interacted wonderfully. This book seems to have it all; even some hilarious scenes! Definitely worth a read!
