Makes the Wildest Religion Sound Tame

I picked this up after reading Lawrence Wright's "Going Clear," wanting to flesh out his broad history of Scientology with a memoir. Unfortunately, as far as escaped Scientologists go, Jenna Miscavige didn't really have much of a story to tell. You get kind of a picture for how confusing and arbitrary the Sea Org is, but I am finding that childhood memoirs of cult religions are not very reliable or clear accounts of how things operate, of the beliefs underlying the religion, or of the major events/crises in the life of the church. To call Jenna Miscavige's story "harrowing" is kind of an overstatement, especially when you already know the kinds of weird, terrible human rights abuses suffered by the other members of the Sea Org.
