For most people this is the stuff of nightmares, horror movies, folklore, and superstition. For New York City police Sergeant Ralph Sarchie, it's as real--and dangerous--as midnight patrol . . . A sixteen-year NYPD veteran, Ralph Sarchie works out of the 46th Precinct in New York's South Bronx. But it is his other job that he calls "the Work" investigating...
Now demon possession is real and there are evil spirits that do come about. But this guys take on it is very hypocritical. You will find it very hard to get through if you are not a devout Catholic or strong believer in anything that the Occult has to offer sides with the devil (so go ahead and throw all your polyblends away). I mean he worships the Warren's which is fine as In don't believe all of their cases were falsified. However he believes that Ouiji, Tarot, witches, and anyone who is basically not a follower of God welcomes the Devil, which is not true. 1/2 the chapter is how you should be saved, 1/4 is how his family factered in or some personal issues was involved, and the other 1/4 is the actual case. Newsflash there are bad Christians too. Anyone who uses or practices the occult does so wisely and responsibly so it isn't fair to lump them into the same category as everyone else. Yet he shows respects for psychics which if going by Christian history were burned at the stake, and speaks of Chakra which is also New Age "Occult". So he flip flops. He may as well include a first year Latin class as summoning a demon too.
Great insight!

I was cautiously expecting this book to be a tad heavy on the legalities of police force and exorcism laws and lingo but I was beyond surprised. It was an easy read with great, albeit some scary stories while giving background and history that won't bore you to tears.
Beware The Night by Ralph Sarchie

Whether you believe in them or not, demons are at work in this world and they are all around you. The evidence is everywhere, and I knew that before I read this book. Ralph Sarchie is not trying to convert anyone to christianity through his book, but merely explain to you that you need to consider your sprirtial side because anyone and everyone will face encounters with evil at some time or other. Although I question some of the people in this book (not Mr. Sarchie himself, who is obviously credible), this book deserves a note a tremendous praise! It will definitely make you think twice about the forces of evil and how they can work against you in your life, and what you can do to battle them... I personally found this book to be well written and highly informative. I appreciate Sarchie's strength to make these cases of the demonic public, but most of all his courage to reveal his own beliefs and faith despite the fact that when a book like this is written there will inevitably be public criticism. It's unavoidable. Nevertheless, this book is great and I hope he writes more of them pertaining to this subject matter in the future. Five stars absolutley!
Terrifying - Scared the Bejabbers Out of Me!

This book was terrifying to read and some stange things started to occur around the house. I am still not sure what to make of it but the book had me reaching for the Holy Water and getting to confession. Mr. Sarchie states that thinking a lot about demons might actually draw them to you. BEWARE! This book will certainly have you thinking about them. It is not for the feint of heart. The credibility of the author combined with the fact that this is a factual account makes for a rather shocking book.

If you are reading this, you must have had some interest in this book.. I urge you do not walk..RUN to the nearest bookstore and pick it up. In sharing his experiences and facts with us, Sergeant Sarchie lets us see through his eyes and feel his feelings. Although the accounts that Sarchie shares detailing his work as a demonologist as well as a policeman are exceptionally scary, his faith, devotion and sincerity shine through on each page. You will develop a great admiration for this honest man as he allows you to peek in on his world. Even the most cynical will walk away more convinced. Sarchie may not have become a major league ball player, but with this he has hit a grand slam home run!LB - New York

I never believed in Satan, but after Sept. 11, who could not believe in evil? Ralph Sarchie is a devout Catholic, but he writes like a good cop and the details of his cases of demonic possession are credible and very scary. This is going to make a terrific movie!
