As I've written elsewhere, TC is high on my list of musicians, with a remarkable background ranging from Berio to the Dead to Touchstone to film projects to....And yes, a lot of disappointments. But how little (if any) bitterness - the ability to step back and see the flow of life, even if it doesn't also work to one's advantage. What's really special for me, a somewhat eclectic musical type, is that I can go to page X, or page XX, or even page XXX, and start reading, get in the flow immediately, spend time with the score examples, read about Phil Lesh, explore the vicissitudes of commercial theater...My only regret is that the book stops in the 1980s (yeah, I realize that's as far as things had gone at the time), but I am begging for more. It intrigues me that his reference material copiously lists performances, works, etc. - but there's no index. If that drives my post-academic mind a little crazy, it's a small price to pay for the beauty of this autobiography. Thanks, Tom - and I hope to hear some of your ensemble pieces one day....
