More Classic Gonzo Journalism

I've read a lot of stuff about how HST hit his peak in the early seventies and then began a gradual decline, while riding on his past success. The two best arguements I could make against this criticism would be to recommend 'The Curse of Lono' published in '83 and 'Better Than Sex' which deals with the Clinton Presidential campaign in that inimatable Gonzo style. There are some excellent photographs- the one with HST and James Carville is great- as well as some of the funniest, drug-fueled prose Thompson ever produced. His near disastrous encounter with Governor Clinton had me in stitches. The book is well paced, funny, inciteful and everything a Thompson fan or casual reader could want. And since he does a fairly good job of skewering both Bush and Clinton, it can truly be described as non-partisan. Everything is fair game for Thompson at his acerbic best.

Accurate Title

This book is better than sex. His best since Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He's not your average acid casualty. This book is an amazing blend of outrageous, mind bending accusations, libelous paranoid ranting, and just good old fashion fun. Hunter is a national treasure and this book is a great read.

Better Then Sex

This books is awesome! Hunter S. Thompson really hits the point.. politics can become an addiction.. this book is great, shows quite a bit about things many people missed during the Bush/Clinton election... Good book, especially if you're interested in the hidden stuff going on under your nose.

The demonic slander of an American Psychopath

"Better than Sex - Confessions of a Political Junkie" is probably Hunter S. Thompson's best work since "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". The last time we found him on the Campaign Trail was during the 72 election, but the product of that experience - "Fear and Loathing on the Campaign trail 72" suffered from Thompson's obssesive attention to details of the 72 election race. Taken from a series of articles covering a year, and running over 400 pages of sometimes brilliant, sometimes boring commentary, it lacks the economy of expression that "Better than Sex" offers. This time Thompson takes no prisoners. No one escapes his wrath and slander because let's face it, in politics - no one deserves to. Thompson writes about modern political figures as if they just screwed his wife. "Better than sex" is packed with great illustrations, demented letters, and of course, the type of commentary that has made Thompson an American monster, and subsequently, America's greatest living author. This is "Da Bomb". Jim Stiene
