Betrayals

Lili St. Crow has done it again! With her latest installment of the Strange Angels Series, St. Crow amps up the action and adventure with Betrayals. Now that Drew is finally at this top secret school, not only is she the only girl in the whole place but there is someone trying to kill her. With the help of her friend, Grave, Drew will try to figure out who is behind wanting her dead. But that's not all, Drew's growing up and starting to feel something strange when she's around Christophe and Graves. Can Drew figure out what these feelings are or will she just end up getting hurt? Who ever said that being is a school fool of boys was paradise was wrong, horribly wrong. Betrayals is the second novel in the Strange Angels series. Having picked up where the first one left off, Betrayals is an action packed thrill ride that leaves you hanging off the edge of your seat! Drew has to deal with being the only girl in an entire school full of boys and having to deal with a traitor. What I love is how St. Crow can still keep a reader captivated even in the second installment. Drew continues spurting out her sarcastic self but also develops with new feelings that she can't quit understand. While we have Graves who is adjusting to him being a wolf and controlling himself and his feelings for a certain friend. And then we have Christophe, who is still there to protect Drew, in a strange way, but something strange is happening with his feelings as well. In a whirl wind all three main characters stay themselves but grow up at the same time. Betrayals is one of those rare gems where the sequel is even better than the first. Does not leave you boring but it leaves you wanting to go ahead and read the last chapter to see what happens next! Liked it as much as the first.

Rare damphir girl gets put in an all boy school with her cute werewulf bf (who's not really her bf yet) and someone's trying to kill her. You should definitely do Strange Angels first. BTW I'm not YA but, sadly, i read their books all the time. I was reluctant to start this series because i just assumed it was another Vampire Academy. I suppose in some ways it is, only this one doesn't suck (i have a particular aversion to the v-academy), and i like the way Saint Crow writes her teenagers--this girl is like Dante Valentine but she's got the excuse of being a teenager... If you're anything like me, you don't trust this author after the completely anticlimactic ending of her otherwise awesome danny-v series, or even worse, the Jill Kismet series. Even after Strange Angels (which i really liked) i kept worrying that this one was going to start sucking because, plot wise, it took a while to advance and the direction it's going seems somewhat predictable (probably due to the fact that i read books like this all the time). Even so, I found it no less compelling and when things got moving i got REALLY into it. You don't have to be YA to enjoy it.

Absolutely amazing!

The story picks up from where Strange Angels left off - with Dru and Grave getting whisked off to a "supposedly" safe-haven Schola. But there's a traitor in the midst, waiting for their chance to kill Dru. The book's filled with angst, action, and, without a doubt, secrets - which undoubtedly leads to betrayal. In Betrayals, all the different sides of our favorite main characters are revealed. There's more to Dru than that tough girl persona she puts up to keep people away - there's a part of her who misses and grieves the people she lost, there's a scared little girl who doesn't know what to do at times, and there's a streak of stubbornness that runs through her unrelentingly. As for Graves, he's growing from that gangly goth boy that he was when Dru met him into the strong powerful loup-garou he was turned into and Christophe shows the fierce protectiveness he has for Dru. Lili St. Crow's writing has gone from its slightly jumbled-up confusing descriptions to beautifully written, lyrical passages - definitely a step up from her first book where I found myself rereading parts to understand what was happening. Overall, Lili St. Crow's world of djamphirs, werewulfen, and nosferatu definitely sinks its claws into you and will never let you go. It'll leave you wanting more.

Great second novel in the series!

Like one of the other reviewers, I was looking forward to Betrayals with equal measures of anticipation and apprehension; I loved Strange Angels so much and I was afraid that Betrayals would be a letdown (like in a number of other urban fantasy series that I know). But I needn't have worried, because Lili St. Crow delivers another wonderful book! Slightly different from the first one and somewhat slower, but the world of the boarding school really comes to life and throughout, Dru's voice (wry, tough, filled with pain even though she isn't and doesn't want to be sentimental) holds the narrative together. More layers to Dru, her mother and her father are revealed and also, her relationship with both Christophe and Graves deepens. Here too, Dru doesn't make the easy choices and I love it! I can't WAIT for Jealousy to come out in June - write faster, Ms. Crow, I'm looking forward to a whole lot of Strange Angels books!

Stunning Novel.

This book is love. I absolutely loved Strange Angels, and was a little worried about Betrayals living up to my expectations. There was no issue there, Lili St. Crow wrote another fantastic novel! Betrayals picks up where Dru story's ended with Strange Angels and sweeps you right back into her world with a fast paced story jam packed with action, mystery, secrets, and tension. I continue to be impressed with Lili St. Crows writing. She's managed to create this amazing world for Strange Angels that I absolutely love. The action never lets up, and Lili St. Crow leaves readers guessing. You think somethings finally going to go right or this'll happen, and Lili St. Crow takes you off in a completely different direction than what you think. There were so many times I found myself yelling at characters, and screaming WHAT!?!. Betrayals was a book that answered some of your questions, but left you with even more! Also you learn so much more about the mythology and story of the werewulfen, djamphir, nosferatu, etc. I thought it was simply fascinating! Dru continues to be stubborn and set in her ways - but that's what you love about her! If she let anyone push her around she'd no longer be Dru. She's such a strong character. Dru also grew as a character in Betrayals. You see more of Dru than the tough girl she puts on. You start to see the vulnerable girl behind the tough face more. Though, I cannot wait for Dru to wake up and smell the coffee - errr.... Apple Pie? Readers get to see more of Christophe. *swoons* I was majorly crushing on Christophe in Strange Angels, and the swoonage only grew in Betrayals. You get to learn more about Christophe and his past. Betrayals gives Graves a new light. I liked him as a character in Strange Angels, but in Betrayals he really grew as a character. He still is no match for the one and only Christophe. You also get introduced to many other new characters. Dibs is one you meet and is one of my favorites. This is a must read. I cannot see where Lili St. Crow takes Dru and her friends in book 3! She's set the stage for another amazing story. Gosh, is it June yet? I need Jealously.
