This series just keeps getting better and better...

I was in a reading funk and this was the book that pulled me out of it. I really enjoyed the first two and I really enjoyed this one as well. For such a small book Velvet packs a lot of sex and A LOT of drama! All of your favorite characters are back in regular form and always in someone's bed! I like this type of erotica because it's not just all about the bow-chica-wow-wow... but there is actually a story and reasons behind all the sex. Michelle is a diva-schemer and although I was happy to see that she got some of what was coming to her I was also sad when it happened. I know it sounds crazy (kinda like her) but she's so BAD and conniving that you can't help but love her. Trey has the perfect job (I wonder if he's hiring) but it doesn't come without its issues. I really love Velvet's work because it's really, really good writing and I can't wait for her next one.

'Betrayal' Will Leave You 'Begging For More' from Velvet!

Ariel, Preston, and Trey are all back with more drama than ever. Ariel and Preston are happily married, but how long will this last? Preston's memory is coming back little by little, and Ariel is not sure if he'll forgive her or if he will throw their marriage away. Meanwhile, Preston's secretary Michele is becoming bored with Trey and has her sights on being at the top of Washington D.C.'s power elite. Michele made a pact with Trey and Ariel to not disclose their secret, but will she honor this or go after her own interests? Trey has long buried his feelings for Ariel, and now they have become friendly allies. But will they tempt faith and cross the line again? Betrayal is an outstanding third installment of the Black Door series by Velvet. Velvet once again picks up right where the first installment left off. When reading this story, you'll be wondering if Trey and Ariel will ever have one last rendezvous with each other. Readers will be furiously turning the pages as Preston's memory comes back. You'll be rooting for Ariel as she tries to find a way to come clean about her past transgression and to save her marriage. Velvet did a great job with bringing these characters back and still creating a wonderful storyline. Of course this novel wouldn't be complete without steamy sex and a jaw-dropping twist that will have you begging for the fourth installment of this series. Betrayal is full of the page-turning drama and eroticism that Velvet is known for. Velvet is definitely giving the fans what they want. Reviewed by Radiah Hubbert for Urban Reviews

Secrets...

BETRAYAL takes readers back to where the first book, The Black Door, ended. Ariel and Preston are married and they are residing in Washington, DC where Preston now has the title Justice in front of his name. Even after surviving a stroke that erased 72 hours of his memory, Preston is happy with his life and his marriage. His son, Trey and his assistant, Michele are still a couple, sort of. Michele is a social climber and Trey is not fitting her image of a partner; therefore, a breech has entered the relationship, and the more ambitious she becomes the wider the chasm grows. However, Ariel, Michele and Trey are bound together by a secret they each hope never sees the light of day. Preston must never remember the 72 hours he lost prior to the stroke. Michele wants to be a Washington Insider in the worst way, but she can't get there on her own. She needs someone powerful and influential enough to make it happen for her. Trey's dislike for the Washington scene has him becoming a distant memory to Michele as she puts a plan in motion while Ariel is out of town. Working fast and using all her available resources, she is instrumental in getting Preston to remember the betrayal he witnessed. Everything culminates on the night Ariel and Trey arrive to confess. With full memory recall, albeit with some manipulation from Michele, Preston exercises his right as the head of the house. Although BETRAYAL is the third book in The Black Door series, it can be read as a stand alone because Velvet provides enough of the past details to bring the reader up to speed. Velvet does an excellent job of keeping the main plot flowing while providing subplots filled with the erotic adventures her readers have become accustomed to. Although I received an advanced copy, I have no doubt the final version will be as equally stunning to The Black Door series as the prior efforts were. intriguing entry

Newlywed and recently appointed to the Supreme Court Justice Preston Hendricks still recovers from the stroke he suffered as his memory of the seventy two hours prior to his illness has not yet returned. His wife, Yates Gilchrist partner attorney Ariel Vaughn and his son New York BLACK DOOR erotic club owner Trey Curtis worry if he does. They had a heated tryst before knowing who the other was and each still wants more; in fact it was a drunken Ariel mumbling about f-ing with Trey just before Preston collapsed from his stroke. Desiring to move amidst the DC A list of celebs, Preston's assistant Michele Richards plots to replace Ariel as her boss' wife though she would not mind a tryst with Trey. Married sexagenarian Congressman Laird Forester also wants to make it with Michele. Meanwhile Trey and Ariel still want each other, but feel guilt as he knows better than to violate the "Man Law" especially with his father as the victim and she loves her spouse and not wanting to hurt him; Preston believes his wife is cheating so he considers an affair with Michele. The third Black Door contemporary tale (see SEDUCTION) is an intriguing entry as the prime players come across as fully developed with flaws that will have readers waiting for a Shakespeare (or at least Peyton Place) tragedy to occur. The story line is driven by the cast; all selfish in some way, as each seeks sexual satisfaction. Soap operatic in design, BETRAYAL is an enjoyable novel that stands alone; but to better understand the history even as Velvet cleverly works in the past into this complicated plot, fans should read the previous two books.
