A Good Beginning Reader - a review of "Best Friends"

Okay, this probably won't be a book that boys will love, but it is another nice beginning reader from the "Real Kids Reader" series. In this book two girls are friends despite the fact that they have as many differences as they have similarities. This makes for a nice meaningful story, something some early readers lack. This particular book has photos that span two pages. On every other page there are two short sentences that contain simple vocabulary. The most difficult words in this book are: friends, gab, and mess. (See below for an example of text.) I like you and you like me. But we are not alike, you see. Four Stars. [B]. Photos are typical of the "Real Kids Readers" series.. There is rhyme and plot in this small book. Good reader for those just starting out.
It's the Best

Not only is Best Friends a wonderful first reader, it teaches the wonderful value of acceptance as well. The book focuses on the positive aspects of being different from ones friends. It was a great tool in teaching my daughter that being best friends does not mean having to have everything alike. Like the other books in the series, it has fabulous content while remaining a "true" first reader.
