Great for non-traditional families

This was the only baby book I found that referred to "parents" instead of mom & dad. It is great if you have a two mom, two dad or single parent family. It is very well done and charming. A total delight to see something gender-neutral and beautiful at the same time. It's great for all of your baby memories.

not just african american families use this baby book!

because the language is so inclusive and the colors and images of the illustrations are so diverse and not soley representative of any one race, creed, or nationality, i know how much this book is purchased by non-african american families. i know friends... white, black, brown, and yellow who have loved using this journal and scrap book. it transcends the limits of ethnic catagorizing and allows all american families, in all our compositions and mixtures, to finally be included. that means same-sex parents, single parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, foster and adopted parents and guardians, and many others usually not included in the design of baby books can finally have acknowledgement.

an essential for today's families!

michaela's book is one all my friends give to other's having their babies. it is inclusive, respectful of diverse families, and graphically hip yet gentle. i even have an adult friend who has no child but bought one for herself to redo her original baby scrap book!

Wonderful way to provide a history of your child's life.

I found this book a much welcomed change to the old and current baby books on the market. The illustrations alone are enough to buy the book; colorful, inventive, and of course, full of "brown children." The way in which this book was developed embrasses the African American culture. The places where family and friends allowed to place their thoughts is part of the concept of "taking a village to raise a child." The writing is mature and loving; no "cutesy or mushy" adult baby talk. There is plenty of space to record your child's growth and development. This is the perfect gift to give your child when they are older.
