Trained as a diplomatic cadet by the Interstellar Federation of Sapients, Tom Red-Clay is sent back to Earth on a secret mission This description may be from another edition of this product.
Rebecca Ore is an outstanding anthropologist. I say this because of her brilliant rendering of alien/human psychology--the meeting, contrast, clash, and ongoing resolution between them. This alien who crashes on earth, ultimately dies, and whose misfortune draws both human and other alien attention, spurs our compassion and interest. It is a plausible launch for the following volume--Becoming Alien--which I highly recommend. The two volumes are profitably read together, with this one being first.
This is the second volume in an excellent 'triple decker' sf

This is the second volume of a trilogy that I have read three times over the last several years. I seldom read a book more than once.... I found it particularly fascinating for how it handled the question of why we have not been contacted by aliens and who might be out there waiting for us to be ready. An interesting speculation.
