Being a Deacon Today

Being a Deacon Today: Exploring A Distinctive Ministry in the Cchurch and in the World As a Candidate for the Diaconate I found this book to one of the more practical and inciteful books on the diaconate I have read. It is certainly grounded in faith but goes further and offers a realistic outlook on being a deacon and what it entails both a Secular Ministry and in the Eucharist. I found it to be excellent.

The Vocational Deacon defined for today

Rosalind Brown's book, Being a Deacon Today, is a must read for every vocational deacon, deacons in training, or anyone feeling a call to this ministry. The information in the Forward by the Bishop of Salisbury alone is worth the price of the book. I would also suggest that all bishops and priests read this one. It gives a clear and detailed description of the vocational diaconate and definitive discussion of the difference between this ministry and the six month transitional diaconate required of all priests.

Must Have!!!

This book is an absolute must have for anyone considering Holy Orders or who have already become a deacon in the Episcopal Church. Parts of this book will speak so loudly to the deacon or aspirant, that they will type them up and read them periodically for encouragement and reinforcement. george McCabe
