Watch What YOU Do

Loved this novel! It really was good but it was missing something at the end!

"The Veil's Kinda Smudged"

Can Ms. Perkins tell a story or what? This was a good book. The storyline and the characters had a chokehold on my interest from start to finish. The only problem I had was that the ending could have been better. It was a letdown.

Why go for broke?

Why would the CEO of a successful company, with a successful wife, almost grown children, who is living the American dream blow it all? In this very touching story, author Suzetta Perkins, has put everything you could imagine into a dramatic first book, that sizzles! The question still stands why would a successful, seemingly happily married business man like Jefferson Myles, go for broke? First he starts an affair with his neighbor, then he gets himself and everyone else involved, when his greed leads him to become involved with a rogue cop and his ex-wife, in an covert weapons operation? Then the story takes off leaving the reader in shear suspense as each page takes you deeper and deeper into the storyline. This story evolves around lust, greed, deceit, betrayal, lies, murder and destroyed families as a result of, " a lack of common sense and moral judgement". As Jefferson Myles, gets pulled deeper and deeper into conflict, betrayal, corruption, lies and danger which he can't seem to find his way out of; his devoted and loving, faith-filled wife just thinks that he must be going through a mid-life crisis, since he is acting so strange. But, with intelligent young adult children around, and living in a small town the plot only thickens. While Margo the loving, devoted wife is no fool, she stays prayerful and supportive to her man, she does not stand for betrayal by her so called friend and neighbor; the way she handles this situation is utterly delightful. The characters will make you laugh, angry and even feel sorry for the choices they made in their lives. It just goes to show you that greed never pays! Through out this action filled book, I could not help but feel that this should have been more than one story...so maybe there is a sequel in the works?

Lying, Sneaking and Cheating

First time author, Suzetta Perkins delves into romance, mystery and suspense in her debut novel, Behind the Veil. Using as a backdrop, her experiences as a military wife and a black woman scorned, she tells an exciting tale of a cheating spouse, a backstabbing best friend and a husband caught up in illegal activities. A couple of days before Christmas, Margo Miles wakes up alone in bed and senses that her life as she knows it is going to change. Not really being able to put her finger on it, something is not right in the Miles household. Margo has it all, four wonderful children, a huge house, luxury cars and a thriving career as a realtor. Her husband, Jefferson Miles is a successful securities manager and seemingly has the perfect life, so why is he throwing caution to the wind and putting his business and life in jeopardy? For the almighty dollar, Jefferson gets involved with a rogue cop and gets caught up in some illegal activities. Activities that could get him killed and those who he supposedly loves. With family and friends together on Christmas Day, an announcement comes over the TV news that a white man in a SUV had been gunned down in the Richmond Heights area of Maryland. In the quest of answers about who killed the white man, all other dealings come to light. Ms Perkins does a very good job of weaving suspense and mystery until the end to get long waited answers and provided some surprising twists along the way. There are a lot of characters with small roles, but are essential to the story. What I really liked was that Margo was not a typical scorned character, but gives the reader a glimpse of how a few women would react to a cheating spouse. The reader can feel all of Margo's pain and emotions. Also, all the ends are not neatly tied up, leaving the reader the opportunity to draw their own conclusions about what happens next. This is an exciting and very good debut novel. I would recommend picking this book up soon. Motown Review Book club

Unpredictable

This is the story of Margo Miles married to the perfect man for the past twenty-five years. They had a good and prosperous life that seemingly changed over night. All of sudden she no longer knew her husband and the friends in her life turned out not to be her friends at all. Margo's husband is involved in a dangerous operation that puts his entire family and close neighbors at risk. The book is spell binding and very > unpredictable. I loved it. I wouldn't call it a `who done it, I'd call it a "oh no he didn't! <br />
