I am an avid reader. I particularly enjoy historical fiction and specifically multi-generational family saga series. Nicolaysen's "New York" series of 5 is highly recommended. In each book, the characters are diverse and well developed, as are the plot lines. The historical context, particularly developing NYC is well considered and presented. A difficult series to find since is out-of-print, but well worth the treasure hunt. "Beekman Place" covers the time period 1776-1783. The following is from the mass market pb cover: "One of the first families to settle Manhattan, the de Kuypers took their place among the first of New York's wealth merchant dynasties. Now, as the call to freedom rang across their land, they were first to answer. When Americ needed its patriots, they pledged life and fortune to a cause that might have seemed hopeless as their city went up in flames. But their resolve never weakened. In the salons of occupied New York, across battlefields and war-torn seas, to the capitals of Europe, the de Kuypers fought and sacrificed for the valiant destiny that was America." "Beekman Place follows the lives of the wealthy and courageous de Kuypers through the Revolution as they pledge their lives and fortune to the fight for their beloved land."
