This book focuses on the psychological (vice procedural) aspect of becoming parents. It was written in the late 70's, and as such makes some interesting observations about how the feminist movement affect the dynamics within a family nucleus. The book does not have a "thou shall do this and don't do that" kind of tone; it is more like a practical field guide for empowering the readers. The author followed 6 different couples, interviewing them before birth, then at one, six, nine at twelve months after birth. She then dissected each case study with respect to the couple's emotional, financial, and psychological background. The stories are engaging, and the book is well written.
