Good book on traditional feminine dress & values....could be better

Evidently the other reviewers selected the book without first noticing the author and/or the publisher -- Bob Jones University is a conservative Christian college, and the author is Mrs. Bob Jones -- OF COURSE the book is going to talk about traditional Christian values, feminine dress and behavior, not modern feminist ideas and how to dress like a man! That said, the book is basically fairly good but the author just doesn't go far enough in giving advice to young Christian women & girls in how to properly dress and behave. She stops short of showing women that skirts and dresses are the true marks of Christian women who want to dress properly and modestly -- the author mistakenly advises that pants and even shorts can be modest attire for Christian women - not true! The author also accuses those Christian women who do not cut their hair (as taught in I Corinthians 12) of being legalistic, and wrongly states that "long hair" has to be measured to determine if it is "long enough" - also not true! As taught in I Cor. chapter 12, "long" hair means "uncut" hair; the actual length that your hair achieves is not the real issue. The point is that women's hair should remain uncut & allowed to reach whatever length it will; no one goes around measuring to see if hair is "long enough"; hair just needs to remain uncut. Also, the author goes into great detail about makeup, and gives the timeworn, worldly excuse that "any barn looks better when painted". Too bad that the author doesn't recall that Christian women are not barns, but are to be the temples of the Holy Ghost. Temples are not to be painted like barns. The author's basic views on feminine submission and a woman's place are OK, but there are better explanations out there. Overall, this book is ok for teens and young girls who need very basic, foundational instruction on beauty and dress, but the author really could have done much more with the book. A better choice would be Helen Andelin's book, Fascinating Girlhood (followed by her book Fascinating Womanhood).
