Incredible Mix of Science Fiction, Romance, and the Paranormal

In the far future, Earth is struggling to feed her teaming billions of people when a breakthrough in technology opens up much of the galaxy for exploration. Unfortunately, while there are many planets suddenly in reach, there are few that are truly habitable. Population pressure gradually eases on Earth but there's a greedy desire, especially on the part of the conglomeration of galactic companies, to take advantage of the barely habitable planets to mine their vast resources. Humans can't tolerate for long the extremes in cold or heat, high UV, severe weather, or savage predators on many of the "near" habitable planets. However, scientists find a way to create a subspecies of humans who can do so. These are the wolfan, a people created from a genetic mix of mostly human DNA stock with genes taken from wolves and other predatory animals. The experiment with the wolfan is a success and they are stronger, faster, and more predatory than their creators. After several centuries, their numbers begin to rival those of humans and their human cousins begin to fear them. Amanda Parker is a planetary explorer who finds out that the wolfan are marked for extinction. Time is running out and the key to saving them may lie in the ruins of a spaceship left behind on an obscure planet. Expecting no survivors, she travels alone-especially because the planet is under an edict and just being there means prison time for all involved. Upon landing, her dreams are invaded by Karrick, the leader of the surviving wolfan pack. He only intends to protect his people but soon finds himself irresistibly drawn to her. Amanda struggles to carry on her search during the day while at night she is seduced by disturbing dreams. In all, I found this to be a very engrossing, well-written book. From the first page, my attention was completely engaged and I wound up getting into work late the next day because I stayed up all night to read the book. I loved the characters and hope to see them in future books. The science fiction story itself was very plausible; there was a lot of action, and several scenes that had me laughing out loud. I especially enjoyed when Karrick's brother let a secret out of the bag-I'd say more but I don't want to spoil the surprise.

Awesome Science Fiction Romance

I truly enjoyed this book and could not put it down. It was an excellent meld of science fiction and romance. I especially liked the characters, which were very well fleshed out and made me want to read more about them. The interaction between Amanda Parker and Karrick Logan was very steamy right from the very beginning and stayed that way throughout the book. The plot was fast paced and I liked the way the author dealt with the issues behind creating new sub-species of humans to colonize planets with harsh climates. I hope that Williams' sequel, Beast of Awakening, comes out soon. I'm getting anxious!

Hot Science Fiction/Paranormal Romance!

Beast of Dreams is a great read for fans who like a strong SciFi plot mixed with a highly sensual love story. Cynthia Williams pulls no punches in portraying a future where genetically modified humans, wolfen, must fight for survival against their human cousins, who've come to fear the highly adaptable, physically superior subspecies. The hero, Karrick, is a wolfen pack leader who must confront a human woman who may or may not bring harm to his people. The heroine, Amanda, is trying to find a means to prevent the coming extermination of the wolfen. The heat between the two main characters builds rapidly and stays hot throughout the entire book. I truly enjoyed this story and could not put it down. Beast of Awakening came out in October and covers Danni and Sirus's story. I just finished it and was happy to find it was just as good as Beast of Dreams. Beast of Dreams was one of the best futuristic romances I've read in a long time! I'm really looking forward to more books in this series after Beast of Dreams and Beast of Awakening. I hope this author does not disappoint me!
