No one wanted the old "ugly" skinny dog with missing teeth. No one wanted the cute little shy dog who had a habit of peeing when he was frightened, and just about everything frightened him. But he had a better chance of getting adopted than the elderly frail black Pomeranian. She probably didn't have long to live. She was on the "kill" list. I say "was" because I adopted all of them. That was five years ago. Amazingly, Trixie May, the black Pomeranian is still alive and doing well as I write this. I knew what I was signing up for . . . no more luxurious vacations, no more sleeping in or staying out late. I would need to budget for the high maintenance of the animals and revolve my interior decorating business to suit the animals' needs. My car is filled with dog bowls, towels, blankets, doggie treats and do-do bags, water jugs, leashes and dog hair. My expensive rugs have been trashed and my home has the smell of wet-dog or dog-wetting. The bedding and floors need consistent cleaning and I'm grateful when I can get a solid night's sleep . . . I have never been more content. The animals are teaching me about what really matters in life. They want us all to be happy. This is their story through me . . .
