The Movie ending is better....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The other day I stumbled into "A Patch of Blue " on TV. I couldn't stop watching it, and I rarely head for a tear-jerker. I was so impressed with the film, I had to read the book. The movie adaptation was right on the money, with a different ending. Usually changes in a book's origional ending spell doom, but this movie is a switch! The last chapter of the book is a wreck, almost like it was written by someone else. The author's attempt at a delusional Selena departs from the narration into a suddenly florid language, full of insight, with a vocab that she does not use with this character throughout the whole book. I reread the ending 3 times, and still had trouble establishing the imagery in my mind. And what a time to break down...right at the time when the only person who has helped you in your whole life needs your help. For God's sake..."Open your mouth Selina or Sleena...whatever"! Without, giving the ending away, to say the least....what a let down!!! Watch the movie. While not as sappy as a Disney ending, it still ties things up and lets Rose-ane get hers !!!

A Classic

This is the story of Selina, a young woman who was blinded at an early age and lives a life of squalor with her hootchie mama and her drunken grandfather. In the park one day stringing beads (her work) she meets Gordon, and they fall in love with one another's inner beauty. Gordon is the only one who has cared enough to teach her anything. Selina's mother has plans to use her daughter in a whorehouse, and it looks like Selina will be forced to go along with it unless Gordon can save her. A movie was made of the novel in the 1960's with Elizabeth Hartman as Selina; Sidney Potier as Gordon; Shelley Winters as the mother; and Wallace Ford as "Ole Pa", the grandfather. The movie stays true to the book, which is wonderful as the book is so beautifully written. It really made a statement for racial equality in its time and still does today. It's a short book, and worth the investment of both time and money for a story you will never forget.

Patch of Blue

I though that the Patch of Blue was an exiting book becacuse, the fact that the characters of different backgrounds came together with great love despite the fact of the racial factors going on at the time. I'm a person who is in favor of this book greatly, this book has a great plot and the ending is some what shocking!!! If you are a reader who likes books of real life settings then this would be a book for you.

Colors

Since I am black this book The Patch Of Blue was very interesting. I liked the book. It was a love story about a blind white girl that was in love with a black guy who she never knew was black. I hated the fact that Ole Pa and Roseanne taught her to be racist and that Rosseanne mistreated Selina.I recommend tihs book to those who are in Selina's situation to let them know life is not about color.

Compeling, one of a kind!

Once I started A PATCH OF BLUE, I could not put it down. It left me breathless- I was like,"WOW!" A very moving and touching story- the book is a diamond in the rough. I usually go for fantasy but this story dealt with human emotions, racial prejudices, and tolerance. It was kind of confusing but I think it was done with a purpose. The message that this story sends to you is clear and strong. I couldn't help but feel moved after I read the book. It'll be one of my all-time favorite book.
