Inspiring and comforting - even after 1500 hundred years!

Gregory the Great is/was one of the greatest Christians who ever lived. I really enjoy "Be Friends of God" as each reading is a brief passage from some of Pope Gregory's full-length homilies. Unlike some of the early Christian writers, Pope Gregory's homilies are not theological treatises used to defend the Christian beliefs. They are words from the heart of a man who sincerely wanted his listeners to understand the life and teachings of Jesus so his "flock" would be able to apply these in their own lives (most of his homilies were directed to the bishops and priests beneath him) His words are pure, simple and genuinely sincere. I'm very grateful to the translator for taking the time to put this work together. This would make a lovely gift for someone just entering the church or one who just wants to hear how one of the early church "leaders" shared their faith with their listeners.
