Sonny was feeling the effects of a long season, a long first year at a new school, a difficult and sometimes tumultuous relationship with his superiors, and the feeling of isolation like a fish out of water. He loved Crystal Falls but at the same time disliked it. He wasn't one of ""them,"" and he wasn't a part of Sterling East anymore. It was a lonely feeling, and sitting in the house of God that morning, Sonny wasn't in any mood to be entertained by announcements, strong-armed by offering pleas, or ""in the spirit"" of praise and worship. It all seemed just a bit empty, until Owen took to the podium to deliver his message. It was about Hope. Real Bible Hope. Hope. Our goals, future expectations, desires, wants, blueprints, and plans. It gets us up in the morning and drives us to reach for the seemingly unreachable. Every day people exist and function in this world because they have Hope. It is the oxygen to the soul. Sonny Mills, a first year head coach at Crystal Falls, will walk through the door of expectation, glory, disappointment, and adversity while coaching basketball in a small independent-minded community.
