Good Starting Point To Learn Mixing Music

This is a real good starting point to learn the basic concepts to mixing your music, it's a small pocket guide easy to carry around and the table of contents is laid out efficiently for you to jump to that particular chapter if need be. You can read the entire book in one sit down or you can use as a basic reference to refresh your understanding in certain areas of Mixing. I have other resources on this topic, but in this field you can't underestimate a book like this, because I've been involved in projects with so called "Mixing Experts" whose mixes sounded poorly, because they couldn't grasp the basic concepts, therefore, rendering a poor acoustical project. Also found the Glossary Valuable as well, get this book and stick with the basics, as more advance books will be more understandable to you in the future. I Hope This Review Helps You. Good Luck.

I found it very useful.

When my friends decided to make a band as a joke, I decided I'd pick this up. When a few of my friends decided to each learn a musical instrument at the same time, we thought it'd be fun to get together and make some really awful music under the guise of a fake band name. Yes, we're awfully bored an awful lot. After some thought, I thought I'd learn drums and perhaps some mixing on the side. With the help of this affordable little handbook, I was able to not only play some [bad] drums, but [bad] remix it when I was done. What could be better than that! Obviously, with my incredibly low expectations, I found this book to be very good. I guess that probably doesn't help much though, huh.

Very informative

Whether youre just starting out or a pro, this book lays out the basics of mixing for each instrument. It makes points here and there on topics that anyone working a mixer come into every time. Very detailed. It's good.

Finally a book that's practical and applicable.

Get this book! This little book (literally - it's a little bigger than a palm pilot) is five chapters packed with 175 pages, including the glossary. It is worth more than books twice its size, with twice the content. I started in music doing rap, hiphop and electronica so I got my experience from doing talent shows, contests, and parties and later in college playing gigs in a band, and later going totally digital on a PC. I never went to school for this stuff, so what I wanted was some indepth tips and techniques to polish my sound. Most other books are extremely intellectual and contain very little practical-wise for someone who already has some experience. You'll learn all the correct words and terminology for what you've already done from experience. Now you can take a written test and pass with an A. But it won't help you recording wise. Also typical books will only give advice on your standard pop or rock recordings. I'm doing techno which pretty much goes by its own rules. No reverb on the bass track? Yeah right! This book gives you practical techniques, tips and advice on a whole lot of stuff!! Effects techniques, recording vocals, balance, mix automation and little tricks for getting around little shortcomings your gear may have. And it gives you alternatives for different styles of music. First I was a little nervous when I saw how little it was. And it came a big 'ole box. I was like, "oh no, I wasted my money again." But believe me this book delievers!! It gives new meaning to "put it in da mix!"

A must have for all potential engineers and mixers!

This book is a must have for anyone who is interested in becoming or is an engineer/mixer. I have been a professional engineer/producer for 6 years and purchased this book for my girlfriend who's studing music technology, I read through with interest and found it to be very clearly laid out full of useful information for anyone involved in music production. It has been written so as not to be above anyones understanding and makes reference to the other books in the series with a brief explanation of the topic in question. All aspect of Mixing are approched including how to get the best recording before you consider the mixing process, arrangments and basic recording techniques for all instruments. My advice is to all musicians go and buy this book even if your not an engineer so as you may have an understanding of the whole concept. Excellent book very informative everyone buy it!!
