Great reference!

I have now purchased a second copy of this book to give to a baseball-loving friend. In the past year, this field guide has been a much-used book for me. As I'm pretty new to the game, it has broadened my knowledge of baseball and answered questions that have popped up; it is a great source of information and the first place I'll go when I need clarification. Easy to read and use, I find it SO much better than the Baseball for Dummies book I bought at the same time. I only shell out money for reference-type books and this one has been a wonderful addition to my library!

Far & away best book of its kind

I've bought enough baseball books to start a small library, but this is absolutely the best practical guide to the game that I've come across. Totally clear in both text and graphics (and certainly the best-looking book on the game), it's one of the few essentials for the fan or curious onlooker. Would make an ideal complement to a book on the culture & history of baseball, like The New Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract.

Great Playoff Primer

Excellent book - especially for women! The company that I work for owns a MLB team, so as they neared the end of a winning season I used the book to prep for playoffs. I even called a "balk" during a game one day and impressed all my friends! Have never played the game (not even softball) but after reading this book I have a new found love for the game - and all the intricate rules! Thank you, authors, for making our winning season meaningful to me!

Great Way to Learn About What's Really Happening at a Baseball Game

As part of our retirement routine, my wife and I began attending minor league baseball games in our new retirement location. I had very little experience with baseball other than playing it on a playground in a pick up game when I was a kid. Therefore, we were looking for a book that would help us understand what we were seeing at the game. What we liked is that the book is well organized and uses illustrations well to get over the finer points of the rules of the games. It also gives a good overview of the roles of the players, coaches and umpires. I looked at other books and rejected them because there were sections dealing with how to play baseball or become a better player. This book meets my need as an armchair fan by focusing on the rules of the game, the jargon and how the statistics like ERA are calculated.

A Fantastic Guide to Baseball Rules

I have been waiting for years for a clear, concise guide to the rules of baseball. The writing is clear and the illustrations are helpful. I highly recommend it to all lovers of the game.
