Well Written Defense of Spirit Baptism

Dr. Anthony Palma is one of the best Pentecostal theologians I have read along with Dr. Stanley Horton, Dr. Gary McGee, and Dr. French Arrington. He is a man with a passion for Pentecostal experience but he also seeks to build his theology from the Word of God. In this short work that was later expended into a book (see THE HOLY SPIRIT: A PENTECOSTAL PERSPECTIVE), Dr. Palma writes to defend not only the biblical and historical view of the person and work of the Holy Spirit but also His unique role of baptism. Palma is here quite Pentecostal in his understanding of the baptising work of the Spirit and believes that there is a second work of grace for every Christian known as the baptism in the Holy Spirit and further this experience is always first made known to both the Church and to the believer through the initial, physical evidence of speaking in tongues according to Acts 2:4. While one might read this work and have trouble with Palma's Pentecostal interpretation of the baptism in the Holy Spirit, no one can deny that Palma seeks to build his case from Scripture and not experience. He deals with every major passage of Scripture on the baptism in the Spirit from Matthew 3:8 to 1 Corinthians 12:12-13. Overall this is a solid work and while I didn't agree with Palma in every area, I found his work to be a strong theological argument for Spirit Baptism as a second work of grace.
