A blessing!

I read this book in one sitting - could not put it down. It is beautifully written with a message for all of us about the power of love - the love of parent for child as well as the love of God for us. It proves again that when we "let go and let God" that He never fails us. Like the author, I, too, finally "got it" as an adult and am still finding grace in everyday life. God really is "out there" waiting for us - more willing to help us than we are to ask of Him. I pray that her continued journey of faith will sustain her and her family. This is a lovely, inspiring book. I highly recommend it.

AWESOME!!

I picked this book up during a layover in the Houston airport. By the time I got home to Salt Lake City, I had read all 262 pages of it--even though it was 2 a.m.!Heather--thank you SO MUCH for sharing your journey into faith with me. This is a book I will loan to non-Christian friends in the hopes of introducing them to the wonderful Peace they will find in Christ.

Lose yourself in this godsend of a book.

Lose yourself in a book by simply opening Baptism by Fire and starting page one. Illuminating and absorbing, Heather Choate Davis' first book is a godsend . I read it from start to finish more than once in one fell swoop, sometimes feeling as if I had not taken a breath in a chapter or two. Adroitly using her to-the-point, searingly honest storytelling skills, Davis tells us about her eight-month-old daughter's terrifying brain surgery and how it led her to embrace a faith in God. The book touched me in several powerful ways. As a mother myself, I accutely felt Davis' anguish over her daughter's plight, and related tearfully to the mental turmoil a mother faces under such circumstances. Davis' deft writing took me right into the hospital room with her and kept me on the scene until the last page of the book. Adding to the allure of being invited so openly into the writer's world is the journey we take with Davis on her path to Christian faith, led there as a result of her daughter's illness. The skepticism she felt about letting go, about giving over control of her life to God made me feel less alone about my own questioning of Christianity, and I rejoiced over her acceptance and relief at finding God at the end of the road. So Baptism by Fire is a book for parents, in particular those who have experienced something similar with their own children, but also for any of us who seek confirmation and clarity on the big question, "Is God alive?" The affirmative answer rings loudly and sweetly in this invigorating and cativating book. Count me in BIG TIME.

A fast-paced, well-crafted inspiration for the soul.

They say life is the journey, not the destination. Nowhere is this clearer than in Baptism by Fire, in which a woman's whole course in life was changed in the space of six weeks. The folks in charge must have a hard time categorizing this book. The two strongest candidates are religion and motherhood. Well, I'm not "religious" per se, nor am I a mother. But this is one of the best -and most insiring- books I've ever read. Baptism by Fire is about finding your way through life and its tests, and yes, trusting in God to take care of you when you have truly done/fought/tried as much as you possibly could. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who has ever gone through or will go through a difficult time in their life... whether it's something as relatively minor as a lost job or as tragic as losing a child. Not even the tiniest bit preachy, Baptism by Fire is quite simply a fast-paced, well-crafted inspiration for the soul.
