Provides a moving portrait of the commanders and men on both sides who fought and died in this inaugural clash of arms. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Having just finished James Regers novel, "Baptism at Bull Run", I felt compelled to write about it. It is not often that you see a historical fiction that uses history as anything but a backdrop for an entirely fictional story. Yet, Reger uses the history itself as the story, bringing to life a look at the great and famous generals, as well as the common foot soldier that you rarely hear a word about. The story really transports you to a place and time in a way that no history book could ever do. I hope more authors would take the time to the research and craft a story in the fashion that this author does, as it marries the best of two worlds and brings history to your front door. I highly recommend this book and look forward to future efforts.

This story is a riveting tale that takes you inside the first battle of the Civil War after Fort Sumter. Reger puts you inside the minds and hearts of the politicians, generals, and common soldiers on both sides of conflict. His description of battlefield surgery is as vivid as any portrayed by the movies. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the real story behind the Battle of Bull Run.

James Reger has researched well. He knows the subject and has presented a unique insight into the personalities, egos, and motives behind the historical Bull Run conflict. Reading this book gave me a much better understanding of the logistics and concequences of the decision-makers. I had fun trying to predict which of the myriad decisions would ultimately decide the strategies. The descriptive battle scenes reminds us of the cost of our freedoms.

This author wrote this novel with such expresssion and vision. I was able to picture each character, fiction or non fiction with ease. If you are history lover or just someone who loves to read, I recommend this book. It's not long and drawn out. It's not written to where you are asking yourself "what does that mean".The chapters are short and the word are simple. This book lets you excape from the present and relive the past.
