I first heard this album in'78 while in the ARMY in Germany. My roommate had "SLOPPY SECONDS", which I pretty much wore out on him.Eventually "I got stoned and I missed it." became one of our cadences while running P.T.(as long as the C.O. wasn't running with us) and we were the loudest outfit around because of the good Dr. I thought I'd split my sides laughing through SLOPPY 2nds, man I was rolling on the floor the first time listening to BANKRUPT!!!I wasn't straight either and that's what made it so much more hilarious. With their bantering back and forth and laughing through-out the album this has got to be the best album I have ever heard! And this is the first place I've seen it anywhere since then. I would have loved to see them live
A Must Have for any fan of the good Dr.

Of all the Dr. Hook albums that I have this is by far my favorite. It contains the best love song of all time "Cookie & Lila". That I can find this is the only album that this song is recorded on. If you have not heard this album it is a must. I Have been listening to Dr. Hook for over 30 years and am still a huge fan. I have this album on LP record, CD, Cassette and yes even two coppies on 8-track. Do not pass up a chance to hear it.
Superlative Hook

Ah, the days before the 70s disco atrocities, when Dr Hook were ballsy, brilliant and broke. This is a fantastic album full of humour, warmth, and rocking tunes. Don't let the Sexy Eyes syndrome get the better of you, put this on and realise what great band Dr Hook were.
Cookie and Lila and the Northern Lights

The first time I ever heard the song "Cookie and Lila" was at a bonfire in Northern Michigan under the Northern lights. For that reason I bought this album and if this were the only good song on this album, which it definitely is NOT, it would still be worth 100 times its price 'cause only Dr. Hook could do it best. Sometimes lack of funds leads to bringing out the good stuff!
The Dr's Fun Prescription

The first thing to know about the album "BANKRUPT" is that Dr Hook were bankrupt at the time. This was sort of a last ditch effort for the band; having ditched "And The Medicine Show" from their band name not long before. The funny vibe from the band's first albums is still present on BANKRUPT: witness LEVITATE,I GOT STONED(AND I MISSED IT), WUPS,EVERYBODY'S MAKING IT BIG BUT ME,THE MILLIONARE,EVERYBODY LOVES ME and DO DOWNS.Add to it the adlibs and wild laughter that are sprinkled throughout this release;I would've loved to be at the recording sessions!Adding to this is a general tightening in the music department and you have a mid seventies classic on your hands.I still love Dennis' version of ONLY SIXTEEN.Have a listen to fun Dr Hook in to era before they went "disco".
