Incredible Book

This book was not only incredible but an inspriration to me, before I left for school and began playing college softball! This book isn't just for atheletes though, my best friend who is the polar opposite of an athelete love this book as well.I would suggest this book to anyone who loves sports,The Yankees, Billie Holiday, or even loves to read.

Couldn't be better

Where does he get it? Louise Gehrig is an amazing heroine, and the Manhattan Meteorites are my second favorite team, right after the Mets.

Loved it even though I'm a Cubs fan

You can tell from "Balls" that Gorman Bechard is a New York Mets fanatic. But I'll forgive him, 'cause the guy writes one heckuva a novel. His lovably loopy story of the first female professional baseballer has a ring of truth, most notably in terms of his view of expansion; the league he concocted back in the early `90s bears a startling similarity to the overstuffed Major League of 1999. If only Mr. Bechard would accept the fact that the Cubs are infinitely superior to his beloved Metsies, I think he'll be just fine...

Louise Gehrig, a perfect role model for any generation

I loved the book "Balls!" It is has all the essential elements of a contemporary classic. It is has a great female heroine in Louis Gehrig, who is portrayed in a multi-dimensional way that you can relate to. You want Louise to succeed in everything she does and you care what happens to her. Louise becomes a like a close friend. The book is topical in what's going on in baseball : home run, rbi, and stolen base records, as well as in how society still deals with the battle of the sexes. "Balls," is humorous and wise cracking, in all the best ways. It is also contains political and social issues, but not in a condescending manner and has a touch of suspense thrown in. Gorman Bechard knows how to write a book you don't want to put down. You don't even have to be a big baseball fan to enjoy "Balls," but it just may convert you! I highly recommend this book.

This book kicks

This book absolutely rocked. Louise should be a role model for all young women athletes of today. Bechard is hilarious and demonstrated a witty knowledge of baseball and contemporary society. His well developed characters are exciting and engaging. This is a must read for all women baseball fans.
