This is an English Christmas story that I just love reading to my two nieces, though only one of them is old enough to understand it.Deep beneath the earth the Goblins are making Christmas toys for Father Christmas. Scrooby, the squint-eyed gnome, has just finished putting the finishing touches on a rag doll's face and he turns to Toddy, who is in charge of hair, but alas, Toddy is out of hair, so Scrooby dubs the poor doll Baldytop and sends her along to Father Christmas to deliver to a little girl somewhere, who will hopefully love her.But sadly Father Christmas' sleigh hits a rock and Baldytop goes flying out into the snow, where she is greeted by a wise star and is visited by a squirrel, some magpies and a wild hare, then finally by a collie dog, who takes her to his master, a poor farmer who has had a bad harvest. He and his wife have been despondent, as they have no Christmas present for their daughter Becky. Now they do, Their prayers have been answered, Baldytop's prayers too, for now she has someone to love her. Now, isn't that a nice story. Wouldn't you just love reading it to your own nieces and nephews, or your children at Christmastime. Five stars from Captain Katie.Review submitted by Captain Katie Osborne
