A fast avenue to an addiction

If you have never read WEB Griffin you should be warned that his series are addictive. I generally finish one of his books late at night and want to start another immediately. Mr. Griffin is a grand story teller with a special touch with his characters. If you start this series plan on completing the series and moving onto the next one!
It's Payne's..............Lawwww!

These are some very good cop stories--not as deep as Wambaugh or Caunitz, but just as good as most TV cop shows. Plus, it's good to see other cities besides New York, San Francisco, Chicago or LA show up in police stories. Like "Homicide's" Baltimore. Or Philadelphia in this series. Every aspect of police work of the '70s covered is believable, but there's one major flaw. A rookie cop whose personal car is a Porsche? That's like the detective on the tube who drove a Rolls! Plus, did Griffin ever allow for the fact that the average gumshoe is going to resent the hell out of the rate of rich kid Matt Payne's advancement on the force?
