After moving to Miami, Florida, sixteen-year-old Desert McGraw, whose life as the daughter of a rock star has been anything but normal, determines to make a permanent home for herself and her family--even if it means breaking up the band.
Well, with words spelled like "bare," "chaptr," and "enogh," no wonder you couldn't get past the 3rd chapter!!! I thought this book was really good. I'd read other books about the music business, but this one was the best.
Awesome!

I'm very into rock-n-roll. So when I went to Barnes & Noble to find a book, I came across this one. I read it in 2 days, and I kept thinking about how great it was. It's about a girl named Desert. She writes kick-butt poetry, can rattle off more guitar companies than I can think of, and doesn't have a permant home due to one thing: Her father is a rock-n-roll god. She hides it fairly well, until her new best friend shows up and meets him. Her friend is the bands' biggest fan. Soon everyone finds out, and things turn chaotic with Deserts family, friends and family figures. The worst thing ever that happens to her? She's playing house with the country's hottest popstar. This book is fantastic! If you like Guitar Girl, Pop Princess or Confessions of a Backup Dancer, there's no reason not to love this!
Great book

I was searching through books in the teen section one day at Barnes & Noble and I came across this. Since it was about a girl named Desert whos dad is a famous rock star, I figured it would be pretty interesting. Desert moves from L.A. to Miami while her dad and his band work on a new album. She meets her boyfriend Liam and her new best friend Becca. Becca and Liam were friends since 4th grade and Desert thought Becca liked Liam so finally Becca told Desert that she was gay. Becca's also depressed- she had a not-so-great childhood that you can read about in the book. At school people talk to Desert and act friendly to meet her dad. In this story theres that part where things fall apart and get better again. Just a great book I couldn't put down. That's a brief summary but trust me, its a very good book. Since it's told by the character Desert herself, it shows her point of view on things. Gaby Triana might be one of my new favorite authors. I just bought this book today and finished it today.

What a wonderful book! Ok, so I'm not a teenager, but I loved it all the same! It makes you wonder about celebrities (in this case rock star) and what their everyday lives might be like with their children .... to us they may be Gods that we woeship, but to their kids, they are just dad and mom.Great book! Congrats to the author ... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
Sneak peek inside the lives of a rock band

Sixteen-year old Desert McGraw is the new girl at Palm Grove High. And that's just fine with her. She has a secret she won't be able to keep for long. She's the daughter of Richard McGraw -- aka Flesh -- lead singer for the notorious rock band, Crossfire. Desert thinks her name is stupid, but she loves her parents, Matti and Richard. She hates the spotlight and life on the road with the band, touring and recording. All her life she's longed for a normal life -- home and school and real friends who don't like her just because she can get them a backstage pass for her dad's concerts. When the band moves to Miami, she finally gets that home and a regular school to attend. But the friend part is more than she bargained for. Because she grew up as an only child in the shadow of a rock band, with tutors and a swarm of adult friends, she never learned how to think of others, much less make friends. In her new life, Liam and Becca seem like pretty good prospects, but Becca's depressed all the time and way too into Crossfire. And Liam's a hunk but his step-mom's a reporter for a local tabloid that wants a story on the band, so he could be the enemy. In Desert's character, Triana has created a wonderful balance between exasperating and endearing. Desert is self-absorbed, sarcastic and trusts no one. But she's also funny, a talented writer, and has a very unusual life. When things start to fall apart at home and with her friends, readers really want her to get over herself. Will she be strong enough to avoid meddling in her parents' lives? Will she ever become a compassionate friend? "Backstage Pass" gives readers a sneak peek inside the personal lives of a rock band without feeling like they're invading anyone's privacy. It has all the zany comedy of the Osbournes minus the mumbling, incoherent Ozzy.
