Baby's First Counting Book

ISBN 1881445135 - Lift the flap books are always favorites, like a literary version of Peek-a-Boo; add in learning and doing something with Mom or Dad... it's an almost guaranteed winner! Each page features a large digit, a small amount of text and an image with a flap section. For example - 7, Seven polka dot mugs in my cupboard, has a cupboard with doors that open to reveal those seven polka dot mugs inside. The pages, like most board books, are thick and easy for small fingers to turn. The flaps are a little thinner and have no real "handle" by which to open them, so a parent might need to pop those open first, to make it easier. If you buy a used copy, be sure to make sure all the flaps are inside. The washing machine door, in particular, seems to be quite easily torn off. As an aside, it's amusing that the "3" page helps to reinforce the idea that washing machines eat socks - there's three socks, not 2, not 4, one pair and an unmatched one. The number 6 says "Six party crackers", which might require even a parent to pause a moment before realizing what they are - but those are small things. In all, a very nice, basic book to introduce a baby to their numbers.
