There is no perfect book. I have examined eight and used two Spanish textbooks to teach introductory Spanish in a higher learning college this last year. I, as well as my students, were very pleased with this book. The lessons are in a good learning sequence. The instructions are in English so that students can learn and study outside of the classroom without having to look up every other word, as some other textbooks require. The presentation is very professional. The lessons begin easy and continue several steps to more advanced learning. There is a great amount of practice exercises and examples to learn vocabulary and grammar. My students especially enjoyed interacting with one another as they did some practice exercises in class. I like the reading and writing toward the end of the lessons with Spanish advertisements, newspaper and magazine articles and literature. This keeps the interest of hispanic as well as advanced students. The textbook does not get a 5 star rating from me because it could use more interactive cd's, an addition to the web site for students to chat and a video story (not just about countries) intertwined with the lessons. This would help the professor's preparation and motivate students and embelish lessons. I was able to use my own materials so that this was not a problem for me.
