Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Promise Part Three (How To Prevent A War Between Nations)

Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Promise Part Three begins with Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko watching the battle between the Earth Kingdom Army and the Fire Nation Army. Avatar Roku whispers in Aang’s ear to keep his promise to Zuko, while former Fire Lord Ozai whispers in Zuko’s ear that the Fire Lord determines what is right. Aang decides to end Zuko, but Zuko sees his mother crying before it ends—the nightmare that Aang and Zuko awaken from. Aang, Katara, Appa, and Momo go to Yu Dao to inform its civilians to evacuate before the Earth King comes with his army. However, they get attacked by the resistance led by Kori and Sneers. Aang is briefly impressed by the fan club joining the fight alongside the Avatar. However, Aang is insulted when the ladies reveal that they tattooed their foreheads like the Air Nomads. Aang argues that those tattoos have to be earned and leaves them. On Zuko’s way to the Fire Nation Colonies, he talks to the portrait of his Uncle Iroh. Zuko tries to convince himself that he’s defending his people even though it looks like his actions are reflecting Ozai’s. When Katara joins Aang at the Fire Nation Colony gate, Aang describes his predicament of how he has to keep the four nations separate to keep his culture alive. On the other hand, if he were to kill Zuko for the greater good, he would be contradicting the teachings of his people. At the same time, Sokka waits for a ride from Aang and Katara when Suki arrives to ask for Sokka and Toph’s help. Sokka and Suki confirm they are still a couple, which I’m happy about. I was worried they weren’t because of what she said to Zuko in the previous book. Toph briefly says goodbye to her students, including the poetic The Dark One. Suki informs Sokka and Toph about Zuko and his plans. Katara starts telling Aang how she feels about the Harmony Restoration Movement. But before she can get all the words out, the Freedom Fighters led by Smellerbee and Longshot come knocking on the doors of the Fire Nation Colony. While Aang and Katara work to prevent the Freedom Fighters from invading the Fire Nation Colony, Sokka, Toph, and Suki work to slow down Zuko’s army. Kori, Sneers, and Kori’s cousins arrive to defend their home. It’s funny how characters like Aang and Sokka are shocked about Sneers and Kori being together. The situation gets complex when the Freedom Fighters and Fire Nation Colony residents battle one another. The situation becomes more complicated when the Earth King’s and Zuko’s armies materialize to fight. Team Avatar works to prevent a bloody war between the different sides. Aang chooses to end Zuko’s life, but Katara prevents him. She informs Aang about her vision for their future and suggests he meditates on his decision for this situation. She agrees to follow his decision, even if they must be separate. When Aang meditates, he talks with Avatar Roku. Roku proposes that Aang contemplate what is best for the world, even if it means destroying his best friend and Roku’s great-grandson. Toph’s students and even the Avatar Aang fan club show up to help the soldiers and civilians from murdering one another. Katara talks to frightened Earth King Kuei about how he should meet the people he’s affecting with his decision. As Katara and Earth King Kuei leave the blimp the king was hiding in, Fire Lord Zuko faces off against General How. Then, Avatar Aang enters the Avatar State and flies to Fire Lord Zuko. Zuko tries to explain himself, but Aang breaks the ground, dividing the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation. Unfortunately, Zuko falls into the crevasse, but Aang saves him in time. Aang reveals that Earth King Kuei is fighting all four nations and that a new world is forming where each nation can coexist. Earth King Kuei orders his army to stand down. Zuko is pleased to learn that he made the correct decision before he collapsed. That night, Aang meditates and discusses his decision with Avatar Roku. Aang reveals that when he contemplated the world, he co
