Pictorial Showcases Texas Capital City

Austin photographer Laurence Parent is well-known for his scenic Texas calendars. Chances are you have one of his calendars hanging in your home, or you've come across his work in the likes of National Geographic, Texas Highways, or Texas Parks and Wildlife. The same radiance his photographs bring to those publications can be found here in "Austin Impressions." The journey through Austin begins with Christmas lights glowing at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, then wanders across the lake now named for the former First Lady, through the governor's mansion, the state capital, and the University of Texas campus, with various stops along the way at local music venues, Barton Springs, and a luscious field of bluebonnets. There is very little text here, but the breathtaking pictures hardly need explaining. An excellent gift book, especially for a poor relocated Texan who is maybe just a little bit homesick.
