A Book That's More Like Real Life

Although it has a crown princess, an aging king, a stepmother, attempted assassination, an impasse with a neighboring kingdom, and other trappings of a very fairy kind of tale, it's not. The Princess Aurelia and her difficult situation (and her handsome rescue force) will definitely appeal to the fairy tale set. But this is also an Anne Osterlund book, so there is more going on. There are illegal immigrants, under the table deals, and lies, lies, lies in government. There is no guarantee that the person closest to you, the person that you should be able to rely on in any fairy tale, will really stand by you in the end. I'm telling you up front. Aurelia had to learn about it all the hard way. Following her on this journey is satisfying whether you read Once Upon a Time books or Academy 7. Aurelia's strength, humor, loneliness, and adaptability make her compelling. What she is willing to sacrifice makes her just awesome. Read and enjoy this book, and I bet you'll be wondering what happens to the kingdom a year after the story ends. Osterlund doesn't say. Maybe we can hope for a sequel.

Princess Aurelia's life is in danger. There have been at least three attempts on her life, but her father doesn't want her to know the truth. Instead, he brought in a royal spy to find the culprit and the mastermind behind these attempts. Robert, the son of the spy, went to school with Aurelia and never stopped thinking about her. There's no way he can keep this secret from her. The two question people and devise plans to flush out the responsible party. However, they missed one crucial detail - and it could cost them both their lives. The cover sold this book for me, but I was immediately sucked into the book the minute I started reading: danger, murder, spies, royalty, and love. AURELIA is a winner! Reviewed by: Jennifer Rummel

Aurelia

I personally read tons of books every year and am always looking for good reads. I came across Aurelia and knew I had to have it. The story line, the characters everything about it just pulls you it. It was honestly one of the best books I've ever read and I will recommend it to everyone! If you're looking for a good romance story that isn't all mushy gushy, this is the book for you! It has history and the flow of the story just makes you want to keep reading!

A somewhat unoriginal, trite beginning, but a satisfying finish

An unknown assailant has threatened Princess Aurelia's life, and a former school friend/love interest is assigned to root out the potential killers. Dashing escapades and heady intrigues follow. Aurelia is your typical YA heroine princess: she's headstrong, intelligent, and unable to stand the many prospective suitors her father's picked out for her. Pretty much the same material in every other junior princess novel. Her romance with Robert, the spy assigned to her case, is also quite unoriginal and predictable. And as for the killer, I pretty much figured out who it was by page 50. Still, Osterlund's debut novel makes up for its predictability with its cast of strong supporting characters (especially the old king), effective use of language, and satisfying conclusion. Although I picked out the assassin early on, the resolution to the novel was completely unexpected. There's also ample room for a sequel. If Aurelia's character started off somewhat one-dimensional, she certainly improved by the end. Overall, this book is no masterpiece, but it certainly isn't fluff read. Considering this is the author's first novel, it's a pretty good accomplishment. An enjoying read, five stars

Mystery. Romance. Danger.

She is Aurelia, she's the crown princess and the heir to Tyralt. Someone's been trying to kill her, but who? and why? He is Robert Vantauge, son of the king's former spy, nephew of the king's adviser and former classmate of Aurelia. His uncle sent for his father to come back to the palace and figure out who is trying to kill Aurelia. His father doesn't go but instead Robert goes. This is in the eyes of Robert and Aurelia. Yes, this is a mystery book but, it's not completly revolved around 'Who is trying to kill Aurelia?' I would recommend this book to those who like mystery, but also like a good story.
