Book Overview

In Audio-Vision: Sound on Screen, French critic and composer Michel Chion reassesses audiovisual media since the revolutionary 1927 debut of recorded sound in cinema, shedding crucial light on the mutual relationship between sound and image in audiovisual perception.

item if fine. a few pen marks and bent corners but that's what i was expecting from such a low price.

This is how it works!

I consider this book a "Bible" for Motion Picture Sound Theory: Chion teaches us that also creativity has got rules and we've got to follow these rules to find the way to realize our ideas in the right way. If you are, or want to be, a sound editor, designer or mixer, you have to read and study this book before learning any software secret: this book will help you to understand how to guide the audience expectations and feelings. I use this book to bring the great research made by this great composer, filmmaker and teacher to my Sound Design course students.

Good book but too long.

Good information though written in a wordy style that I disliked. Could have been shorter and had better headings to bring out the structure and information.

Outstanding

This is the best book I have seen so far on theories for sound design. I used it for my graduate design research thesis 4 years ago at Carnegie Mellon, and I am about to require it for my students at UT next week, for a course in sound design. Chion opened up so many new ideas for me on different ways that sound affects us. Like the book itself, the forward by Walter Murch (considered by many to be a hero in film sound design) is inspiring.
