I remember this book from when I was 5 or younger. The sorrow of the story and pictures made a lasting impression, as did the understanding that there is no redemption through hate and anger. These may seem, initially, beyond what young children are capable of understanding, but I disagree. I'm reading this to my children now, and they seem as captivated as I was. Ultimately, this is a beautiful book. Of course you have to be the one to judge what's right for your child, but don't underestimate them!
A warm and wonderful story of forgiveness and love

I have used the story of ATUK in pre-k and kdg. classes. It is full of imagery and warmth. The story tells, through the experiences of an Inuit boy, about forgiveness and appreciation of life. I strongly recommend it for the high interest, the lovely prose, and the amazing artwork.
