Journal of scientific expedition to Patagonia in 1930. to search for fossils to help understand mammalian evolution.Introduction by Laurence M.Gould, new to this edition. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I’ve read this book 4 times over the last 25 years. An incredible insight into grunt fieldwork Paleontology! I was so intrigued, this last January 2023, I journeyed down to Buenos Aires to follow in his footsteps. Simpson was in Buenos Aires in 1930, getting government permits to dig in southern Argentina, when the Revolution of 1930 broke out. His first hand accounts of mobs, gunfire, and bodies in the street was compelling writing! Seeing the Casa Rosada, and surrounding Plaza de Mayo, brought his narration to life. There is even a church by the Plaza with repaired machine gun holes. Recommended reading.

A quick summary of this book would describe it as a fossil hunter's journal from the 1930s. However, humorous, matter-of-fact descriptions of people, politics and the unexpected make this book an excellent choice for any reader.
