Solid ideas and well expanded tactics for habits

I really enjoyed this book. I have been personally trying to create habits and go to the gym more often and thankfully that is one example used frequently throughout the book. Clear outlines his four aspects of habit creation and their inverses and then proceeds to use examples of famous and well known athletes, award winners, and famous sports teams to highlight the topic of every chapter. Clear also does a very good job providing resources and approachable tactics for people to build habits and figure out how stick with them. The numerous resources provided at the end for additional reading and cited throughout the book is even more useful as it shows Clear has done his homework and is truly providing a well researched and thought out argument for building and keeping habits.

Favorited

A practical and concise read that goes into the power of habit formation and breaking. Though there are many books on habits out there, this was by far my favorite. James Clear writes in a way that is both easy to read and understand. The actions recommended in this book are both easy and cover any sort of habit setting that one could want. James Clear also goes into the inverse rules of recommended action to break bad habits. Using examples of both rules and inverse was insightful and thought-provoking. Each of these chapters had me questioning things in my own life that I could tweak to get better results. Another aspect of the book I enjoyed was how James Clear was insistent on the power of compound effects. Building upon small changes that add up over time. This allows one to reach a massive goal by marginal changes. His "Two-Minute" rule to stop procrastination is something we can all learn from. Clear's thoughts on building the proper systems & environments were impactful. Yet, comparing it to the consensus on motivation was something I found profound. Many people tend to focus on the motivation aspects but needed constant reassurance. His theory flips consensus on its head and more on how to make things more appealing to do naturally. In Clear's words: "Motivation is overrated." Finally, making habits part of one's identity was something that I found empowering. By changing the way we view ourselves, we can change our mindset to focus on things that matter. I typically avoid most self-help books. Too many of them are rambling and unscientific. Atomic Habits is a book that cuts out the extra fluff and focuses on its core message. It's honed in and short yet impactful. This is easily one of my favorite self-help books out there. 5/5.

Listened to the audio cd.

Great listen-to book while driving; I think better than reading it. Learned a lot and will listen to it again.

Kick start growth

Change my views. Already starting to practice better habits. My consistency was lacking and this book has taught me to start small. I jump in full force and burn myself out with everything. Really recommend it. Good small step in the right direction.
