Succinct conversional view of philosophy-physics(cern),death

Look I read this short book about 10 years ago and don't remember much detail. I wanted to buy it as a gift for a work companion. It is located in Europe and includes two conversational characters. One a physisist the other a philisophical writer. I felt the conversational meetings of these entities (walking in parks etc.) a refreshing approach to the age old projected anagonism of arts and science. Me, being more science, cannot remember the credentials of of the assigned philosopher. I think he was an author. The physicist was working on building the accellerator loop covering a few European countries. This is used for detecting sub-atomic particles. The attraction to the book was the cover. Simple graphic. The technical aspects were not not my interest. The conversational life fundamentals in the topics they discussed while walking were expressed in engaging prose. Not that I'd know what prose was, but, the words flowed well.
