I would recommend this book to any person involved with helping at risk youth. It has a tremendously easy to read format which guides the reader through the struggles of the at risk child. Sagor begins by educating the reader about the at risk child. Through Chapter 1 the reader understands better what the child experiences and gets an inkling of what the child must feel. Step by step the reader is taken through the process as an individual, as an educator, as a provider of self worth. Sagor extends that to a school wide idea and even further to the community. As a professional who works with at risk children, I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to read this kind of text. It is written in such a way that the reader is comforable moving from one step to another. The concepts are affirmed by others in the field and supported by research. If more people would read this book, we would have a huge decrease in kids deemed at risk. This book should be on the nightstand of every educator, social worker, counselor, and youth director.I loved it and use it weekly!
