Very, very, very excellent. The most entertaining and yet still informational book on the topic that I've gotten my hands on. A lot of the other books out there are pretty dry reference books, but this one is especially great because you can actually sit down and read it like a book. I definitely recommend it.
A Great Introduction To The Industry

Tim Crich sure knows how to write a specialized book without being boring. Full of humor, while still being informative, "Assistant Engineers Handbook" is definitely a must have for anyone breaking into the industry.
solid review of the assistant's duties

This book goes into considerable detail about the assistant engineer's duties in the modern recording studio. Tim Crich has some formidable experience as a 2nd in both Canada and the United States and he shares with us his acquired knowledge. The content is considerably less technical than I hoped but he does offer valuable advice about engineer/client relations and includes some hilarious anectdotes. Some of this knowledge is rapidly becoming archaic in the digital age where most engineers rarely even see their clients (as in post). However, the book is a useful tool, if not in what TO do, then in what NOT to do.
