A really magical book, a fascinating read

Serving in the British Army in Western Africa, Leon Courtney decides that army life is not for him. He dreams of being a big-game hunter, and stalking the famous wildlife of Africa. When a Maasai priestess prophesies that Courtney will be one of the most famous hunters in the world, he little knows what lies ahead for him. He learns much about the bush, and encounters many strange and interesting people - some more dangerous than the animals they come to kill! I must admit that I have never read a Wilbur Smith book before, so I cannot compare this one to any other of his books. But, what I can say about this book is that I found it to be an absolutely fascinating read. I really enjoyed Mr. Smith's version of Africa, which really brought alive for me the mystery of Africa that so entranced Westerners during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Now, I can quite see why so many people left everything they knew and journeyed out there. This is a really magical book, a fascinating read. I enjoyed the time I spent reading this book, and I do not hesitate to recommend it to others!

Assegai

Excellent book and great service from the seller. Thanks, Danny White

Assegai by Wilbur Smith

Wilbur Smith is back in Central and Southern Africa and in fine form. He finally got off his horrid Egypt kick. Assegai is a great read!!

Pure, Classic, Wilbur Smith!

Finally! Wilbur Smith has returned to his love and the heart of his fame. Assegai is cleanly written and fluidly fast-paced, not a dull page in the book. It brilliantly illustrates Wilbur's gifted talent as a skillful storyteller. He has masterfully woven his love and knowledge of the animals, and the people of Africa, and it's history. In my opinion, to day, the best book he has ever written. - - Barbara Davis, author of DARKSIDE OF DEBONAIR, THE BUSHMEAT TRADE

Wilbur's Best Yet: Assegai

I've been a life long Wilbur Smith fan and own every title he's published (in English). I received a boxed, signed, limited edition version of Assegai last week and read it immediately upon receipt. Assegai is breathtaking and unbelievably engaging. I literally could not put it down. The directness and linearity of the story telling is vintage Wilbur Smith and I found it a purer read than Quest, his last novel. I always finish a Wilbur Smith novel with regret. I think that Assegai is his best to date. If you like Wilbur Smith you'll be impressed with Assegai.
