Charming Point Of View

The book well surprised me as it took the point of view straight to Assasult himself. Children will enjoy reading about this racehorse from his point of view really well. I only have a few complaints: The book comes to an abrupt end when the last chapter, that was only about the Belmont stakes, goes straight to the epilogue. Assault won many other important races after the triple crown, not to mention that he raced until he was seven, due to his infertility. The book only tracks him as a three-year-old. Make that more exact, the triple crown. They were argueably Assault's greatest races, but his greatness well-exceeded the triple crown. I found the book to be sort of vague on Assault's connections, who were clearly important to Assault's success because they picked his races for him. There should have been a part that told of how Assault's fans loved or could relate to him better than all that was put in the book. And sometimes the point of view from the horse wasn't told like it was. Horses have different points of view from humans, true. And that made the book a little imteresting. But apart from that, sometimes horses lack the actual knowledge of what is really going on and what they think is. So sometimes you can get confused. Other than those subtle flaws, this was a delightful book that is sure to entertain young readers early on about the wonders of Assault. If they still find him a superhorse when they get older, I'm sure they would also enjoy the real account of his story in the Thoroughbred Legends series.
