Ascent of the Eternal

Con is a simple wanderer who has given up a life of mercenary work for a chance to settle down and live outside of the kingdoms of Soluria. Drinking away his troubles at a tavern in the middle of nowhere--this would be his ideal way of living. He did not care for the follies of Kings, nor the political unrest of the nobles. His blade had seen enough in his early years that he was finished fighting. Peace, quiet, and a nice glass of Ale was a decent reason to visit the tavern, not to mention the beautiful maiden serving his drinks. However, drinks and beautiful women were not what drew him to The Old Oak tavern tonight. Con expected to meet his brother here. He expected Necrius to drink with him, and hopefully resolve the four-year argument that had almost caused them to kill each other. What he did not expect--was to see a wounded king stumble into the tavern. A king that could only ramble about horrific creatures that emerged from the ground at the city of Llamoor. The loss of Llamoor at hands of demons? Highly doubtful. Llamoor was one of the most fortified places in Soluria. Not to mention that shadowy creatures were fairy tales, meant to scare children. It sounded like an excuse for a cowardly King who had finally lost a battle. The King must have retreated in his last conquest to rule over all of Soluria. He was sticking to his story though--about the burnt man, and the shadowy creatures that crawled out of the large fissure. Llamoor was the last city untouched by the King of Fire. The king must have been fabricating an excuse. A lie to prevent his reputation from degenerating. What was strange though-- was the screams coming from outside The Old Oak. Not to mention the roaring, scratching, and pounding at the wooden door of the tavern, and--the blood that splattered on the windows was not washing off with the heavy rainfall. Where did this evil come from? How would humanity survive it? Humanity was used to fighting each other, but these creatures were from another world entirely--a world created from the darkest reveries of mankind. Con has lost his family. His dreams of relaxation have burned away as the monsters are quickly taking over the continent of Soluria. He thought he was finished fighting. He thought that the mercenary work was over. He was wrong. At this point in his life, he can only grasp his weapon, face his fears, and hope that in the end--this battle will finally bring him peace.
